Student Loan Forgiveness for Frontline Health Workers Act 2020
There is legislation to abandon student loans to first respondents and frontier healthcare professionals.
Congressman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY-12) announced the law in the U.S. House of Representatives on May 5, 2020. The law will allow outstanding federal and private student loan debts to frontline healthcare professionals treating coronavirus patients. Loan relief is tax-free.
- The law defines frontline healthcare professionals as doctors, medical interns, residents, nurses, family healthcare professionals, healthcare researchers, mental health professionals, and emergency healthcare professionals. Along with, laboratory workers and medical researchers engaged in coronavirus testing are involved in research into the prevention, cure, and treatment of COVID-19.
- Administrative staff who do not transport or treat patients are ineligible. Veterinarians are not qualified.
- Though, despite having 20 co-sponsors, the bill died in the previous parliament.
- AAMC (The American Association of Medical Colleges) approved the bill.
Opportunities for Heroes Act of 2020
- The United States has introduced the 2020 Heroes of Opportunity Act (H.R. 6699). Congressman Anne kuster (D-NH-2) and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1) met on May 5, 2020.
- This bipartisan law provides student loan subsidies of up to $ 25,000 for essential workers’ federal and private student loans. There are 39 co-sponsors.

Public Health Workforce Loan Repayment Act of 2020
